Pace Yourself This New Year

Pace Yourself This New Year

Hiking in the mountains; pacing her walk.

Pace. Don’t run ahead of your Savior. Everyday life is a walk, a long walk. It is a marathon, a walking marathon. Everyday life can be trying, monotonous, nothing special.

However, it is His presence that makes it special. Living for Him changes our perspective, our motivation making all we need to do worthwhile.

Step by small step

Don’t let the whole year be your focus. Day by day is where it is at. All of those days will equal a year. Today choose to take your eyes off the problems in your life and focus on Jesus. He wants you to walk with Him today, the next five minutes, the next five hours. He will never leave you. Look to Him. Allow Him to live through you. He will deal with your problems if you allow Him.

Racing emotions

Emotions will take you on a rollercoaster ride. Ignore them. They are not reliable. It is a walk of faith. Believing God’s promises we step out with Him, even if we don’t know the future answer. We don’t aim for the mountain top experiences. Trying to live on mountaintop experiences is like a rollercoaster ride. A walk trusting Him to provide all we need for life and godliness.

Keep your eyes on Jesus

Above all, keep your eyes on Jesus. Many issues of life try to get our attention. Peter sank because he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the waves.

Political and social turmoil cause us much stress. Everyday life with its problems can cause tension and worry. If we keep our eyes on Jesus, He will enable us to deal with all of life while walking in His peace.

Walking daily with Christ as our life will keep us on a high plain. There might be an occasional mountaintop experience, but they are not what we rely on. We rely on the daily life of Christ in us. He lives in our spirit and wants to live through us. Let’s daily allow Him to walk out His life through us as we make room for Him in our everyday life.

Words to light your path

Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. NKJV

Romans 8:4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. ESV

Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. NKJV

Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? ESV

John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ESV

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. NKJV

Ephesians 5:8  for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light ESV

Did you notice how many times we are instructed to walk? Walking through our everyday lives while allowing Jesus to live through us makes each day special, blessed. His presence, His character, His smile will brighten even the darkest of days.

Prayer

Lord God in Heaven, help us to see how much You care for us. You don’t expect anything out of us that You don’t by Your Spirit provide for us. You ask and You provide. How simple. How different from the secular advice that tells us we need to be strong. You want to carry us all the time, not just when the going gets difficult. Help us to allow You to live through us. Help us to walk with You, keeping pace with You and not running ahead or off on our own.
