Believers in an Unfriendly World

Believers in an Unfriendly World

person walking in dark fog like living apart from God. Believers live in the light

How have you been this week? Has the news been depressing? Has your world be shaken by upside-down behavior? Disturbing? Even, shocking? When God is rejected, those who reject Him are left in darkness. What are we as believers to do?

Our society is so different than what I grew up with. How about you? I mean, who could have imagined even 30 years ago that laws would have been passed to protect behavior that we barely imagined. Now it is protected and celebrated. But this week a line has been crossed. Absolutely unconcionable. At a time, when it seemed progress was being made for life, all of a sudden out of nowhere, New York passed a shocking law and celebrated it!

We, as believers, are no longer respected. Rather, we are denigrated for not celebrating certain behaviors. We remind people of what is good and right. We remind them of what is a sin, and are not appreciated for that. We are looked upon as wanting to prevent progress. We are looked upon as intolerant. Let us not be deceived into believing we are wrong.

“If only believers would be quiet so we can do what we want without feeling guilty” is the sentiment.

But what are we to do? Pray. Repent for our country. Pray for those who are promoting such despicable behavior. They are not despicable. Only the behavior is despicable. The approval of such behavior is just as bad as the behavior.

Paul tells us in Romans 1: 28,32, “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that  those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

Sounds like arrogant rebellion to me. Does it to you?

I’m reminded of the prayer of Solomon when he dedicated the temple in 1 Kings 8:22-53 and Daniel’s prayer in Daniel 9:1-19.

Would you join me weekly in praying Daniel’s prayer?

Words to light your path –

1 Timothy 2:1-2 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

Heavenly Father, Humbly and desperately, we ask for Your help in this time of trouble. You encourage us in Hebrews 4:16 to come to the throne for grace in the time of need. Oh Lord God, we so need You.
