How To Be More Than a Conqueror

How To Be More Than a Conqueror

The Bible promises us that we as believers are more than conquerors. Yet so many live in defeat. What is wrong? How can these words be real in each life?

The words of the Bible can be so much rhetoric if we can’t relate them to our lives.

How can we defeat the enemy we are dealing with? What are the gods that try to defeat us? Alcohol. Drugs. Jealousy. Anger. Fear. Etc.

Reason – Failing to recognize the enemy

I think there are a few reasons. I’ll deal with one today. We don’t see our enemies. We don’t recognize them. Anything that will take us away from God is our enemy. Anything that causes us to sin is our enemy. They aren’t just character flaws or weaknesses. They aren’t something we were born with. Each of those flaws that dominates us is our enemy. Alcohol is not a weakness. It is the enemy. A bully. Anger isn’t a character flaw, it is our enemy.

Our enemies are bullies and they are stronger than us. Do we see it? Will we admit it? The only way to succeed is to hide behind someone bigger than our enemy and that person is Jesus Christ. He is our hiding place protecting us from or enemies. As soon as we sense the enemy’s presence we need to take refuge in Jesus and not try to fight this battle ourselves. God does not want us to fight. He wants us to lean into Him, hide in Him and allow Him to fight for us just like He did so many times in the Old Testament for His people.

Read the Psalms and see how many times David and others talk of God being their rock of defense, their hiding place, their fortress. Let’s bow before the Almighty God displaying our trust in Him in the face of the gods that try to ruin us.

Words to light your path this week

Psalm 27:1-6

Psalm 143:9 Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; In You I take shelter. NKJV

Psalm 44:5 Through You we will push down our enemies; through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us. NKJV

Deut. 3:22 You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you. NKJV

Psalm 138:1 I will praise You with my whole heart; before the gods I will sing praises to You. NKJV

Prayer – Almighty God, You are more powerful than all the gods that tempt me. Help me to remember to hide in You. You are my fortress. Amen
