Counterfeit or Real Christianity—How to Tell

Counterfeit or Real Christianity—How to Tell

                                                                                                                                                                 Counterfeit Christianity. Real Christianity.

Bank employees, tellers are taught how to discern the counterfeit. Handle the real over and over and over. After they have handled the real over and over a counterfeit is slipped in. It is noticed immediately. Something is odd about it.

How can we know the truth?

That is how we can be if we read the word of God every day.

Let’s study the Bible. The real. The genuine. Let’s be like the Bereans and check out everything we hear that claims to be a message from God. Let’s take the few minutes it takes to check out the references in each sermon we hear and read the verses before and after them for the full context.

When the counterfeit phrase is slipped into a message it can be immediately noticed. Something about the false will raise a red flag in our spirit alerting our mind to check it out.

Who do we listen to?

A popular and trusted minister may be presenting a message that has a counterfeit statement or two in it leading people away from the foundational truth of the Bible. Do they notice? Or is it accepted simply because 90 percent of the message is correct? Or is it acceptable because he has never led them astray before?

If we follow the incorrect statement it will lead more and more away from the truth. That is the goal of Satan – to lead astray. To cause us to doubt God. His goal is subtle – just drop a hint or two in the middle of truth when nobody will notice, hopefully.

What if you are so well trained in the Bible that you pick up on the error? Do people believe you? Do you want to point out the error?

Words to light your path

John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. NKJV

John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”  NKJV

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 NKJV

“Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.”  Psalm 119:89 NKJV

Father God, may we diligently study Your word that we might know the truth and not be deceived. You warned us that in the last days many would be deceived. Protect us by Your word. Your word is the truth.
