The Few, the Humble, the Poor

The Few, the Humble, the Poor

The few, the humble, the poor…that sounds the opposite of a goal-driven, successful life, does it not? Why would we want to be one of the few, the humble, the poor? Jesus said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3

Lord, I need you.

God, I need You. I am poor in spirit. Can you say that with me? Or are you doing alright on your own?

Why do we have to be poor to receive the kingdom of heaven?

Poor in Spirit

It is for those who recognize their need of Him. If we don’t need God or we think we can do it ourselves He has nothing for us. However, if we admit we are needy, confess our need of God, and believe completely in His Son, Jesus we will be born again and will be able to see the kingdom of God.

The Few

Who are the few?

  • Those who recognize their inability to be spiritual
  • Those who admit to themselves and to God they are needy
  • Those who embrace their inability to be spiritual
  • Those who don’t try to hide it

The Daily Life

When they have made those admissions, what is next?

  • they step aside and let God live through them acknowledging they are incapable of doing the Christian life right or successfully on their own.
  • they reckon themselves with their natural abilities to be dead
  • they allow God to live through them.

At that point God’s life and power invade their being flavoring every area of their lives

If we take those steps, God’s Spirit will empower our being making us able to be like Him and changing us to be like Him. When stressed frustration and anger won’t come out. Rather it will be His characteristics – the fruit of the Spirit.

The Best of God

The best God has to offer is Himself. His life filling up our emptiness. No longer empowered by our own limited abilities, but by God’s life. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. God’s spirit. Not just on Sunday, but every day.

If we stop our relationship with God at being washed by His blood, then attempt to live our own life, we are with the many believers doing the same thing and missing out on a very abundant life. God wants us to rest in Him. He waits for the few, the humble, the poor to come receive His gift of Life.

Let’s be one of the few, the humble, the poor. Let’s admit our spiritual poverty, open wide our life to God, and allow Him total access. An abundant, amazing life awaits us.

Lord, help us to have the courage to take the first step toward an abundant life by admitting our need of You.

Matthew 9:12-13 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
