Bible Truths – What we learned in our group study this week

I would like to share with you the importance of the Bible, the scriptures, Bible study. How important it is to study it, to search it for wisdom, to feed our souls. It is complete. Lacking nothing. God has provided all we need for life and godliness.

If I need wisdom or advice for any area of my life I can find what I need in the scriptures. It is truth. It is reliable.

For relationships, family, children, anxiety, addictions, struggles.

                           Bible Truth

Does the Bible offer what you need? Do we need to go to other experts for help? What about Christian psychologists? Do they have the wisdom we need, the solution to what is troubling us?

Do they have the truth? Let’s see what the Bible says. It may not be politically correct, but it will be the truth.

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:25 “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men.”

And 1 Corinthians 2:6 “However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.”

That doesn’t sound like reliable advice to me.

Let’s see what else Paul has to say in 1 Corinthians 2:13-14, “These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

So if we have been born again, then our spirit is alive to God’s spirit, and we can understand what He tells us. I prefer advice from my creator. I believe He knows me best and knows everything for that matter.

What else does Paul say? 1 Corinthians 3:19-20 “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness’, and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”

Now those are strong words. Futile?

What is taught in the colleges and universities is futile? It might not be totally worthless in helping people with their emotional problems. However, it doesn’t diagnose deeply enough and definitely doesn’t provide healing or true freedom. They can provide coping skills, an emotional band-aid,  but they cannot provide real solutions. Even the counselors admit they don’t have the answers. They can only help you come up with a solution that will make your life better or offer medications to control anxiety or other symptoms.

Will their advice bring us peace? Freedom? Joy?

Can we find freedom and peace in the Bible? Yes, Bible truth offers freedom and peace.

Biblical wisdom

Do you see what God says about the wisdom of our experts? So why do we look to the wise experts around us? We have access to God’s wisdom. He knows everything. He lacks nothing.

He doesn’t lack in certain areas leaving us to go to secular experts like Maslow, Jung, Freud, etc. or to counselors trained in the traditions of men.

Do we really think that God is somehow incomplete? That He needs the help of our psychologists to provide for His people. What about blending psychology with scriptures? If God has all we need for life and godliness why would we mix what He offers with what is futile? That sounds like confusion to me.

Maybe the wisdom of the Bible doesn’t make sense at first. That is true. It doesn’t make sense to our common sense. Our natural side might take offense at it. God’s ways are not our ways. But it is spiritually understood. It is simple. Yes, but not simplistic. By faith, we read and apply the word.

The wisdom of the Bible is simple and easily understood. But some biblical advice we don’t like so we want to substitute what is more acceptable to our old nature. We say it is complicated.

How important were the words of God the Father to Jesus? Jesus was obedient to share the words His Father gave Him in John 17:8. Not His own words. He was faithful not to put forth His own agenda. What He said and what He did was His father’s agenda. So again we can trust what He says.

Bible Truth

In His prayer to His Father in John 17:17 he prays, “Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth.”

Jesus said in John 8:31-32, “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” So if we want real freedom, we can go to the source of freedom. Jesus said to abide, to live in His word. There we will find all we need for advice and counsel. He promises peace and freedom.

Are you beginning to understand the importance of biblical truth through reading Bible?

In Colossians 2:8 Paul says, “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”

That is a strong warning. Philosophy, traditions of men, basic principles of the world. Following them, we will be denied the truth. They will cheat us. They don’t mean to; it is that they don’t know the truth themselves.  They are doing the best they know how. But it is not the truth.

Do you want reliable advice or futile advice? Studying the Bible will clear up much for you. Take your time and study the Bible. Maybe start with John to learn about Jesus. Then explore the scriptures written by Paul – Philippians, Colossians, etc. A lot of good advice. Totally truth. Bible truth. Easily understood. Clear.

Reading the Bible is essential to the believer’s spiritual life. It is food.

What do you need from the Bible? Care to share your thoughts?

Benefits of Bible Wisdom

Here is what King David said about the words of God. –

He describes it using these words: perfect, sure, right, pure in Psalm 19:7-8.

  • The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
  • The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
  • The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
  • The commandment of the Lord is pure enlightening the eyes.

What is lacking in those words?

  • God’s word is perfect. It can convert the soul. It can provide the direction you need.
  • God’s word is sure. If we come admitting we need His advice, it will make us wise.
  • God’s word is right. It is correct. Nothing wrong with it. It fits every situation.
  • God’s word is pure. It is not clouded with various opinions leaving with confusion.
