Hungering for God

Hungering for God

I want to take a few minutes and expand a little on last week’s prayer about hunger for God.

Create in us a hunger for You, O God, that is a starving, painful hunger. A longing, a pining for You that doesn’t just threaten to consume us, but actually does consume us.

It consumes our thoughts, desires, and plans even while we go through every day with its responsibilities, relationships, and relaxation. May it be the default system running in the background of our lives.

Although it might start small, I pray it grows until our whole life is governed by that desire.

Where our thoughts are dominated by You. Where that desire threatens to rip us apart. That prevents us from floating through life. That causes us to pursue You with all our being.

This new year may we not settle for less. May we allow that desire for You to overwhelm us. May You become our great obsession. Plant in our hearts a deep hunger for You.

O Ancient of Days, create in us a hunger for You that is never satisfied. As You meet us, may we long for You even more. May we become a society of believers whose hearts burn for You. Amen

Words to light your path this week

Psalm 42: 1-2 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

Psalm 63:1,8  O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.

Philippians 3:10 …that I may know

Psalm 25:5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day

Exodus 33:13 Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight.
