Uniting The Divided Heart To Worship God

Uniting The Divided Heart To Worship God

What if everything we did was an act of worship to God from a united heart? Or is my heart divided? Just thinking today and letting it come through this keyboard…

Divided heart

We tend to divide our lives into secular and sacred. Ordinary secular life activities like daily tasks, employment, shoveling snow, washing dishes, home repairs and grocery shopping. And the sacred or spiritual part of our lives is spent in prayer, Bible reading and going to church.

Is one more holy than the other? Is one filled with God’s Presence while the other is not? Are we two different people? Split in two?

Paul encourages us to do all as to the Lord. Everything: cooking a meal, fixing a stopped-up sink. Whatever we do, he taught, was to be done as unto the Lord. Everything.

What is worship?

Worship is more than singing, prayer, or Bible reading. It is more than a mood, a feeling. It is living as an offering in every situation. We are to sacrifice our lives. Not when we die, or are killed by persecutors, but by sacrificing our daily life. Now. Keeping none of it to yourself. Giving it all up to God as a living sacrifice. It is all His.

Every daily mundane, difficult, or easy task can be filled with His presence. Everything we do or say can be holy. Even everyday conversation can be tempered by His holy touch.

His holy Presence is ever present with us. Are we present to His Presence? Or do we ignore Him? He is with us, always; in us always. We act like we have to beg Him to be with us. He said He would never leave us.

Imagine you have a really close friend, or spouse that is with you always. What if you ignore that person most of the time? What would they think?

Let’s be ever aware of His Presence and do all for Him. Check out the scriptures listed below that I base this thinking on.

Everything we do can be touched by the holy. It can be sanctified as done unto our Lord. Wouldn’t life look different? Wouldn’t there be more joy?

Just thinking through my fingers and keyboard today…

“One of the greatest hindrances to internal peace which the Christian encounters is the common habit of dividing our lives into two areas, the sacred and the secular. As these areas are conceived to exist apart from each other and to be morally and spiritually incompatible, and as we are compelled by the necessities of living to be always crossing back and forth from the one to the other, our inner lives tend to break up so that we live a divided instead of a unified life.”
