God of the Old Testament – Isaiah Unpacks Who God Is

God of the Old Testament – Isaiah Unpacks Who God Is

Recently, I read of a well-known pastor of a large church that was quoted saying that we didn’t need the Old Testament. That we needed to concentrate on the New Testament. Have you heard that? Here is a link to one article, if you want to read about it.

How would we know the character of God without the Old Testament? Or how could we fully experience God’s mercy without it? The New Testament is based on the Old Testament laws and prophets. Jesus, as well as, the apostles quoted many times from the Old Testament. They seemed to find it essential.

So, I thought I would see what the Old Testament had to say about God, us, and his plans. Will you join me each week as I try to look at most of the Old Testament books taking one book per week to share what the Bible has to say. I hope you gain wisdom for your journey. So far that is my plan. In no particular order.

After viewing this list, do you want to do away with reading Isaiah? I encourage to read all of Isaiah and maybe use a study guide called Simple Bible Lessons for You or if you want a workbook you can find the same lessons in my Bible Reading Study Guide.

Words to light your path

Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness. NKJV

Heavenly Father, Help us to not listen to those who would take us away from the Old Testament for there is much to learn about You, who we are without You, and Your plans for us. The good plans You have for us. Help us to be students of Your word and learn for ourselves who You are. Amen
