Godly Advice – Unite My Heart To Focus on You for Advice

Godly Advice“Teach me Your way, O Lord, I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.” Psalm 86:11

Teach me Your way, O Lord. Jesus said that He was the way, the truth, and the life. His way is the truth. Godly advice. He is the expert of all experts. How many different experts are there offering all kinds of advice? Do they offer godly advice? There are books, magazines, google search, teachers, those who claim to be experts…All kinds.

The experts don’t agree on the best solution to any problem. So who do you listen to? Christian bookstores are full of books with advice for nearly every situation. Which one do you purchase?

Have the authors who offer godly advice been influenced by the political correctness that rules our society today?

Maybe we listen to secular advice for certain situation and biblical advice for other problems.

Much of Christian counseling is a mix of secular wisdom and biblical advice as if God is somehow lacking and His wisdom needs supplemental wisdom from man, the creature He created. Hmmm…does that make sense?

Godly Advice

God knows what the experts only wish they knew. He has all the answers. See more about the wisdom of the Bible here.

Counselors have gone to college to learn all the wisdom of the world to enable them to help others. And they have some success. But, their knowledge is limited to the ways of man. If they are Christians, they will add biblical advice to it. A mix of Godly and worldly advice. Kind of like mixing oil and water.

Could it be that we don’t quite believe God has everything we need as Peter tells us in 2 Peter 1:3 “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him.” All things that pertain to life. All things that pertain to godliness. All that we need. It covers every aspect of our lives.

Do we somehow translate the word all to mean some of the not so difficult situations? Do we believe it means ‘all’?

Godly Advice for All

Do we believe the Bible? Join me in making a decision. A fundamental decision. A decision to believe the Bible. To accept as truth. A decision to trust God. A decision to believe that He has all we need for life. All we need for godliness. Unite our hearts, O Lord. May our hearts be wholly Yours.

What is your concern today? What is bothering you? What difficulty are you having this time of your life? What part of all does your problem not cover?

1 Corinthians 1-3 compares the wisdom of God with the wisdom of man. Here is some of what Paul wrote to the church in Corinth. The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile. The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him…..

Let’s, as his people, look to Him as our source for all we need including wisdom and advice.

King David understood the importance of God’s word. In Psalm 19 he tells us the word of God is perfect, sure, right and pure. It makes us wise, give us understanding and provides joy. Now that sounds like advice I would like. I need wisdom and understanding. And to think it will provide me with joy is an added benefit.

Unite Our Hearts

Instead of getting the advice I need from various sources I want God to unite my heart so I will get all my advice from Him. To teach me His ways and to walk in His truth. It may not agree with secular experts and might not be politically correct, but it will be perfect, right and pure.

Words to light your path –

“Thy word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path.” Psalm 119: 105

Every problem we have has a root source and the Bible deals with the roots. Maybe not every specific situation, but the root of every situation is dealt with in His word.

Gentle Shepherd, help us to get our advice from You. Help us not to mix or clutter it with bits and pieces of the world’s advice. You are our God and have everything we need. You have not left us to find our own way. You are not incomplete. You are not missing anything. We don’t have to go to the world because You are lacking what we need. Unite our hearts to reverence You and receive all we need from You. Amen.
